Whether or not Nick Fitzgerald, and the Mississippi State offense, can miraculously get back on track

More from Mississippi State Football

There’s a really good chance that Mississippi State’s offense won’t be anything special in this game. Heck, there’s a really good chance that Mississippi State’s offense won’t be anything special for the rest of this season.

But, if Joe Moorhead can make some adjustments, Nick Fitzgerald has more time in the pocket, and Fitz can also fully process Moorhead’s offense, then there’s a chance that the Bulldogs could score some points this weekend.

That’s a lot of ifs and there’s no guarantees anywhere in there. Still, that’s a storyline that MSU fans should keep an eye on in this game.

If you find yourself totally dismissing the probability, then go ahead and take a look at how long it took for Penn State to fully adopt and adapt to Moorhead’s scheme back in 2016. It took the Nittany Lions well into October before things really clicked. And, well, we’re only one week into October, but Moorhead still seems to think that eventually it will click at some point. It’d be great if it happened in this game and it’s a talking point that fans, and probably the broadcasters, are going to bring up.

Next. Joe Moorhead must adapt his offense right now. dark

I don’t know if the offense will function in the way that Moorhead and Luke Getsy envisioned that it would. I don’t know if that will happen at all this season. But there’s a slim chance that it will happen this week. Regardless, MSU fans should go ahead and brace for the possibility that it won’t and that the defense will be responsible for carrying the Bulldogs to victory each and every week.
