The head coach of the Mississippi State football team must make some changes on the offensive side of the ball sooner rather than later if the Bulldogs are to win games again this season.

One quote that went overlooked from Joe Moorhead’s press conference earlier this week came after he was questioned as to why the Mississippi State football team seemed to be avoiding giving the ball to the running backs against Florida and Kentucky.

When asked about it, Moorhead responded, saying: “We are examining more and more ways to make sure that when we call a run, it gets put in the running back’s stomach and he runs it as opposed to either a quarterback run or a pull and a throw.”

This is from Monday. During this press conference, Moorhead addressed a multitude of complaints that  Mississippi State football fans have had about the offense. While Luke Getsy bumbled during his media availability, MSU’s head coach directly said that the Bulldogs need to use their strength on offense as opposed to forcing this team to learn a new scheme when it’s not yet ready to do so.

MSU’s head coach has now acknowledged that a change needs to be made. Now, this weekend, we’ll need to see that change implemented.

More from Mississippi State Football

Against Florida and Kentucky, the Mississippi State football team scored one touchdown. That was against the Gators and the Wildcats. While those two teams may be better than expected and Florida’s defense knew every tendency of MSU’s offense, Auburn is going to present a rather unique challenge.

The Tigers have film from both of Mississippi State’s losses this season that reveals every weak point on the Bulldogs’ offense. Combine that fact with the 16th best total defense nationally and you’ve got yourself everything a team could need to shut MSU down for the third consecutive week.

The Tigers are talented and have all of the knowledge that they could ever hope for when it comes to exposing MSU’s offense.

That’s not good.

Moorhead and the Mississippi State football team must make the necessary adjustments here in this game. If MSU is to salvage this season and Moorhead is to gain the trust of the Bulldog faithful, then the offense absolutely has to click this week. It doesn’t matter whose scheme is utilized here, the offense just needs to score points and it needs to score points now.

Next. Should MSU change quarterbacks?. dark

While it might make sense in the long run for the Bulldogs to continue to learn Moorhead’s offense, there won’t be much of a long run for Moorhead if the team doesn’t start winning more consistently right now.
