After a second consecutive week of offensive ineptitude from the Mississippi State football team, Head Coach Joe Moorhead has a choice to make.

The Mississippi State football team has a serious problem on its hands. New Head Coach Joe Moorhead has made a living as an offensive guru getting big, explosive plays in the passing game. The team he inherited is built to grind people opposing teams into submission with the running game.

If he wants to win any more football games this year, Moorhead must learn how to use a run oriented offense. If he doesn’t, what was considered a promising season is going to turn into a season where the Mississippi State football team doesn’t even make a bowl game.

Joe Moorhead took less shots down the field on Saturday against Florida. But the running game has yet to materialize in SEC play. If the Bulldogs can’t run the ball or hit plays in the passing game, it doesn’t matter how good the defense is. They have to be able to score points, and right now, the Mississippi State football team simply can’t.

There won’t be much time to fix the problems before the next game. Trying to change philosophies before Auburn comes to town probably isn’t the best idea. The Bulldogs will just have to try and out slug Auburn if they want to have a chance. 3-3 is staring this team in the face.

The only hope this Mississippi State football team has is if Joe Moorhead can learn how to use an offense that features the running backs and grinds teams down with the running game in the off week after they play Auburn. If he can’t, or simply refuses to, the reality Bulldog fans will have staring them right in the face won’t be pretty.

It will mean the Mississippi State football team has hired someone to coach their program a lot more like Sylvester Croom and a lot less like Dan Mullen.
