Mississippi State Football Versus Kansas State: How to Watch and What to Watch For
The Mississippi State football team hits the road for the first time in the 2018 season with a match-up of Power 5 teams in Manhattan, KS.
When the Mississippi State football team takes the field with the Kansas State Wildcats later this morning, it’ll be of the bigger games of the day. Week 2 is notorious for having a poor slate of games to watch, and this week is no different. If you plan to watch, here’s where you need to go.
- Game Time: 11:00 a.m. Central Daylight Time
- Television: ESPN
- Streaming: Watch ESPN app and FUBO TV
- Radio: Check local listings or use the Mississippi State Radio Network on iTunes
So that is how you can watch or listen to the game. But what specifically should you be looking for while viewing?
Last week was nice, but a game against a bad FCS team is not much more than a glorified scrimmage. This week, the Bulldogs hit the road against another Power 5 team and should make things more interesting.
Here is what I’ll be looking for as the game plays out this morning.
What will Nick Fitzgerald play like?
This will be the first time Nick Fitzgerald takes the field since his gruesome injury in the Egg Bowl in 2017. Will he show any improvements in the passing game? Will there be any hesitation in his game because of the injury. I tend to believe the answer to the first question is yes and the second questions is no, but we can’t say for certain until we see it with our own eyes.
Will the Bulldogs continue to attack the defense through the air?

The emphasis on the passing game for the Mississippi State football team was obvious against Stephen F Austin. The Bulldogs passed the ball 34 times and ran it 37 last week, but many of those runs came in the fourth quarter when the Bulldogs were simply trying to kill clock. We’ll see what a real game plan against a quality opponent will look like this week.
Can the Defensive Line continue to live up to the hype?
We all know the Defensive Line had a lot of hype to live up to. And 17 tackles for loss later, they actually did it against an inferior opponent. It was going to take a lot to stand out against such an inferior opponent, but the Mississippi State Football defensive line found a way to do it.
Will the Cornerbacks how any improvement?
The only real issue we saw that was a concern in the game against Stephen F. Austin was at Cornerback. And most of the issues were relegated to Jamal Peters. Despite his natural athletic ability, some of the struggles he has shown since arriving on campus in 2015 were still evident last Saturday. He has the ability to be one of the best players on the defense, he just needs to show it.
So that’s how you can watch the Mississippi State football team and some storylines. The first big game of the 2018 season is here, so sit back and enjoy the ride.
