The Mississippi State baseball program has reportedly finally found its pitching coach

Chris Lemonis now has his pitching coach. Well, that’s according to some early reports at least. According to D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers, the Mississippi State baseball team was able to pull Scott Foxhall away from the North Carolina State Wolfpoack and bring him to Starkville.

Now, Lemonis has his coaching staff fully assembled and ready to go.

Assuming that Foxhall is indeed the dude (Kendall Rogers isn’t typically off on these sorts of things), MSU has made a pretty good hire here. The Bulldogs are bringing in an experienced pitching coach that developed North Carolina State’s pitching staff into one of the best in the country.

Last season, Foxhall’s starting rotation featured three very solid pitchers. Brian Brown led the way with a 7-2 record and a 2.74 ERA. Just behind Brown was Reid Johnston with a 3.06 ERA and a 7-1 record on the year. Rounding the group out was Johnny Piedmonte with a 4.12 ERA and a 5-3 record.

All three of those pitchers started at least 10 games. Multiple others made starts throughout the year, but they were at the top of that stat.

North Carolina State also showcased a pretty good bullpen last season. Kent Klyman led the way  for his entire team with a 2.34 ERA and an 8-2 record on the season. Through 61.2 innings pitched, Klyman struck out 67 opposing batters, a higher total than Johnston and Piedmonte despite having the fact that Klyman had exactly zero starts on the season.

If Kendall Rogers is right, then Mississippi State baseball has found a guy that can truly develop talent. Scott Foxhall completing the coaching staff gives Chris Lemonis someone who will be able to pull the Bulldogs’ together on the mound. Now, Jake Gautreau and Lemonis just need to continue to bring in highly talented players for Foxhall to develop.
