Jake Mangum Returning For Another Season Is Huge

Mississippi State baseball needs something that resembles continuity. The Bulldogs have had four different head coaches from 2016-2019. As John Cohen became the athletic director, Andy Cannizaro stepped in. When Andy Cannizaro stepped out, Gary Henderson stepped up. Now, Cohen has brought Chris Lemonis to Starkville.

That’s a lot of changing in leadership over the past few years. But, Mississippi State does still have a key leader on the field and in the dugout.

That’s Jake Mangum.

Now, Mangum isn’t coach. But, he’s been with Mississippi State for a few years now. That’s more than this coaching staff. Mangum has seen the highs and lows of this program and is returning for his senior season with the Bulldogs.

After the way that this year ended in Omaha, Jake Mangum has to want to go back. The Bulldogs fell short of winning a national title. He’s the leader of this team and is one of the best college baseball players in the country. Having him come back, from a leadership and a production standpoint, is crucial.
