This Team Probably Shouldn’t Have Made It To Omaha And The Fact That They Did Is Insanely Enjoyable

This team of Mississippi State Bulldogs overachieved and that’s not an overstatement.

When this team was halfway though the year, the Bulldogs were sitting at 14-15 and 2-7 in the SEC. Mississippi State sat through most of the year at the bottom of the SEC standings. The Bulldogs weren’t a lock to make it into the SEC Tournament, let alone the NCAA Tournament.

Nobody really expected the Bulldogs to make it all that far through most of the year.

But, Mississippi State took a series from then No. 3 Ole Miss, claimed the Governor’s Cup, swept then No. 3 Arkansas, and then swept No. 1 Florida. And because the Bulldogs claimed all of those SEC wins over the top teams in the nation, MSU snuck into the NCAA Tournament as a number 2 seed.

And from there, the Bulldogs made it all the way to Omaha. They looked at elimination multiple times and still found ways to win. Mississippi State succeeded in improbable fashion and it was a blast to watch.
