It’s hard not to believe that Elijah MacNamee and the Mississippi State baseball team won’t be back in the College World Series next year

This Mississippi State baseball team did beautiful things this season. For the 10th time ever in school history, the Mississippi State Bulldogs made it to Omaha, but they did it in probably the most improbable way possible.

The Bulldogs overachieved this year. And that itself might be an overstatement.

State, three games into the season, was left without a head coach. Because of what was happening off the field, the future of Mississippi State baseball was thrown into question and Andy Cannizaro was on his way out. That left the Bulldogs in Gary Henderson’s hands.

Prior to this season, Gary Henderson had never made it through a regional, never won a Super Regional, and hadn’t ever coached a College World Series game. Now, at the end of this season, his team cleared the Tallahassee Regional, claimed the Nashville Super Regional, and went 2-2 in Omaha.

There were plenty of questions about how the Bulldogs might do this year. Still, this Mississippi State Baseball team made it to Omaha and were one win away from competing for a national title. Elijah MacNamee, a new star for the Bulldogs, has promised that MSU is going to be back.

When the Bulldogs come back, they’re planning on winning it all.

This Mississippi State baseball team accomplished something special. It makes sense that they’d be able to do it all over again. The Bulldogs are talented and will return most of their team going into 2019.

There’s some questions about the coaching search, sure. And yes, players could still theoretically leave for pro ball or transfer out. Still, you have to feel good with where this team is right now in this moment in time. You also have to feel good about how good they can be next season.
