Mississippi State baseball couldn’t keep up with Oregon State in the College World Series

The Mississippi State baseball team fell short tonight. The Bulldogs faced an incredibly talented Oregon State team and just couldn’t keep up them. This has become a successful season that everyone associated with Mississippi State could be proud of.

Unfortunately, it’s now over.

The Bulldogs didn’t have enough when they faced the Oregon State Beavers, but they were still solid throughout the game. If Mississippi State could erase one painful inning, this is probably a game that MSU walks away with as a win. The Bulldogs had a rough go of things in the top of the 3rd, when Oregon State placed five runs up on the board.

But, well, Mississippi State can’t erase the top half of that inning.

Ethan Small earned the start for the Bulldogs and threw for 4.2 innings. He struck out five batters but unfortunately still allowed for those five runs to be scored. Cole Gordon then stepped in and pitched the rest of the way. Gordon’s outing was clean and clear as he kept the Bulldogs right in the game.

While Gordon was able to go toe-to-toe with Oregon State’s pitchers, the Bulldogs couldn’t get much at the plate. The only run that the Bulldogs scored came in the bottom half of the 3rd. That led to MSU losing 5-1.

And now, the Mississippi State baseball team will return home from Omaha. This team of Bulldogs has had so much success this year that they likely shouldn’t have had. Still, MSU made it to Omaha. The Bulldogs scared and beat many of the best teams in the country. This has been an incredible year for Mississippi State baseball.
