Mississippi State baseball had another walk-off win show up when they needed it most

It wasn’t the flashiest of hits. This wasn’t the most pronounced walk-off hit. It wasn’t by any means the most eye popping walk-off hit that will be remembered by casual fans of college baseball. But Mississippi State baseball fans will remember it for quite some time.

This walk-off single by Luke Alexander came at the perfect moment to move Mississippi State baseball forward in the College World Series. This walk-off single gave the Bulldogs another huge win at a crucial point in the season.

In the first game of the 2018 College World Series for Mississippi State baseball and Washington, the Bulldogs and Huskies battled in a pitchers’ duel. The game was tied at a solid 0-0 as things headed into the bottom of the 9th inning.

Ethan Small for Mississippi State performed admirably. As did Washington’s Joe DeMers. The two certainly did their jobs as starting pitchers and, for the most part, they silenced their respective opponents’ bats. The two teams’ relief pitchers did the same, for the most part.

In the bottom of the 9th inning, Hunter Stovall hit a single to get things started. Elijah MacNamee followed suit, hitting another single. After a botched bunt attempt, Luke Alexander stepped up to the plate. And then, with one out, Alexander hit a single of his own and ended the game.

Mississippi State baseball opened their run in Omaha with a solid 1-0 win over the Washington Huskies.

Now, the Mississippi State Bulldogs must get ready for the North Carolina Tar Heels. Thankfully, the Bulldogs will get Sunday off and they will return to play again on Monday evening. Hopefully MSU will be fully rested and ready to go against the Tar Heels at that point.
