The Mississippi State baseball team found another way to get a walk-off win this postseason

This Mississippi State baseball team continues to amaze. The Bulldogs struggled to string together enough hits to get a win up until the bottom of the 9th inning. Luckily, Mississippi State’s pitchers were able to keep the Bulldogs in the game and Luke Alexander made some more late inning magic happen.

On a walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th inning, Mississippi State came away with a 1-0 win over Washington.

Ethan Small took the mound to start the game for Mississippi State and did everything he could to keep Washington off the board. Through 7.0 innings pitched, Small threw 104 pitches on the evening. Small struck out five of the 25 batters that he faced, only allowed four hits, and kept the Washington Huskies completely scoreless in his time on the mound.

And it’s not like any of Mississippi State baseball’s other pitchers allowed any runs.

JP France threw in the 8th inning, facing three batters and sitting all of them down. Then in the 9th inning, Cole Gordon emerged. Gordon faced a pair of batters and was only able to get one out. He was then relieved by Zach Neff who closed the top of the 9th out by preventing any damage from being done and getting two outs.

But that left MSU and Washington tied 0-0 heading into the bottom of the 9th inning.

However, Stovall got on base quickly in the bottom of the 9th with no outs. From there, Elijah MacNamee advanced Stovall over on a single of his own. And that’s when Luke Alexander struck. Alexander got a single with one out and was able to move Stovall home.

MSU won 1-0.

Soon, Mississippi State baseball will face off against the North Carolina Tar Heels. The Tar Heels won their game from earlier today, beating the Oregon State Beavers. If MSU wins there, the Bulldogs will have a legitimate shot at competing for a spot in the National Championship series.
