NCBWA Names Mississippi State Baseball Gary Henderson 2018 Coach Of The Year

For the second time in a week, Mississippi State baseball interim head coach Gary Henderson has earned National Coach of the Year honors for 2018

Mississippi State baseball‘s interim head coach is the 2018 Coach of the Year, according to the National College Baseball Writers Association.

Mississippi State baseball has been through quite a bit in 2018. This college baseball season has been an unusual one for the Bulldogs. It started off historically awful with the dismissal of Andy Cannizaro. However, things have quickly turned around and Mississippi State baseball is now in the College World Series.

The midseason resurgence that Mississippi State experienced is because of its head coach. The Bulldogs have been led by Gary Henderson for most of the year and Henderson has helped MSU overcome every sort of adversity possible.

The Bulldogs went 10-1 this season against top 10 teams. Mississippi State fell behind in the 2018 Tallahassee Regional after losing by 10 runs to the Oklahoma Sooners. Still, MSU claimed four straight wins and moved on to the Nashville Super Regional.

There, Mississippi State claimed two games from the Commodores and advanced to Omaha.

Now, the Bulldogs are in the College World Series for the 10th time ever. Only five coaches have brought Mississippi State to this point. Gary Henderson is one of them.

Because of that and how the Mississippi State baseball team got here, Gary Henderson is deservedly the 2018 Coach of the Year. Earlier in the week, Perfect Game/Rawlings named Henderson their 2018 Coach of the Year. Now, the National College Baseball Writers Association have named Henderson to be their 2018 Coach of the Year.

Henderson has earned every bit of these awards. He deserves more for what he’s helped the Bulldogs do this year. Now, there’s no real news as to what is happening for Henderson and the Bulldogs after this season, but it seems like he’d be a good pick at this point.
