Mississippi State Baseball Is One Win Away From The 2018 College World Series

One more win and the Mississippi State baseball team will be in Omaha

One more win and Mississippi State baseball is in.

Just one more win.

That’s all that the Mississippi StateBulldogs need to get into the College World Series. The fact that we can even discuss that with the 2018 version of the Mississippi State baseball team is incredible. The Bulldogs have come so far since they last played the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Last night, Mississippi State beat the Vanderbilt Commodores thanks to a huge swing by Elijah MacNamee. His walk-off home run set State up with a realistic shot at getting into the College World Series.

We’re talking about a team that, 29 games into the season, was sitting with a 14-15 record. The Bulldogs were 2-7 against Southeastern Conference opponents and were swept by the Vanderbilt Commodores.

And now, MSU is here, knocking on the door of Omaha.

Now, let’s be clear, there is no guarantee that Mississippi State will win either of the next two games. But the Bulldogs have a chance to do so. MSU has a golden opportunity to go on and win and get to the College World Series. Back in March and April, nobody would have considered that a truly realistic possibility.

This team lost its head coach after one series. Then, Gary Henderson took over. Following that, the Bulldogs struggled, but improved down the stretch. After going 9-1 against top 10 opponents in the regular season, MSU made it into the SEC Tournament and then the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs won the Tallahassee Regional in spectacular and historic fashion.

Now, Mississippi State just needs one more win.

The Bulldogs are so incredibly close to getting to the College World Series. The fact that the 2018 Mississippi State baseball team has made it this far should not be taken for granted. Whatever happens next, fans should applaud how much MSU has accomplished and be grateful for how this team has turned things around so quickly.
