Elijah MacNamee has continued to amaze and step up when the Mississippi State baseball team needs him

There’s no other way to put it. Elijah MacNamee is quickly becoming a Mississippi State baseball legend. Time and time again, when the Bulldogs have needed a clutch play in a big moment, MacNamee excels and carries MSU across the finish line.

What Elijah MacNamee is doing right now for Mississippi State baseball is going to be talked about for years to come. This postseason run for MacNamee has been incredible and isn’t something that MSU fans should take for granted.

The 6-4, 209 pound Cypress, Texas native is having a phenomenal stretch as of late. The Blinn College transfer has performed far better than anyone could have hoped in the postseason. Especially given how he played for most of the year in 2018.

Through the first half of the 2018 season, MacNamee was in and out of the starting lineup. It wasn’t until April 18th, at Memphis, that MacNamee’s name became a permanent fixture in the starting lineup.

Now, it looks like his name will continue to be there for as long as Mississippi State can put it there.

MacNamee entered into that Memphis game with a .246 batting average

That’s decent, but it’s certainly not anything remarkable. You don’t really go bragging about a .246 batting average. MacNamee also wasn’t doing well in producing doubles, triples, or home runs. He had exactly zero of all three up to that point.

Now, it seems incredibly strange that such a productive bat would be completely incapable of getting an extra base hit.

But that’s what was happening.

It wasn’t until April 21st, against Arkansas, that MacNamee got his first double of the season. Then, on May 6th against Alabama, MacNamee hit his first home run of the year. We’re still waiting for MacNamee’s first triple, but he’s been on a tear ever since then.

When MacNamee got that first double, his batting average sat at .250. When he got that first home run, it was elevated up to .270. And since then, that batting average has only improved even further.

MacNamee is hitting with a .329 batting average right now. That’s good for second on the team.

MacNamee has been phenomenal in the past month

The closing stretch of the season helped spark a run for Elijah MacNamee. From May 6th to June 8th, MacNamee has a total of eight home runs. Five of those have come in the NCAA Tournament alone. And as it just so happens, two of those home runs are walk-off home runs.

The first came against the Florida State Seminoles when MacNamee eliminated them from their own regional. The second came last night when MacNamee silenced the Vandy whistler and ended the Commodores’ comeback attempt.

In that same timeframe, MacNamee’s batting average has skyrocketed up to an insane average of .418. He’s not playing around and he’s consistently been there whenever the Mississippi State Bulldogs have needed him this postseason.
