The Mississippi State baseball team helped Gary Henderson get to his first Super Regional as a head coach
For the first time in Gary Henderson’s career, he will be the head coach in a Super Regional. The Mississippi State baseball team defeated Oklahoma, won the Tallahassee Regional, and will face the Vanderbilt Commodores in a Super Regional.
The way that Henderson has guided this Mississippi State baseball team beyond all of the obstacles in its path is incredible. And here Henderson is with his first shot to win a Super Regional as a head coach.
Coming into this year, Gary Henderson had only made it to two other Regionals. When Henderson coached the Kentucky Wildcats, despite how good some of his teams were, they only made it into two regionals in the NCAA Tournament.
During the 2012 season, the University of Kentucky of Wildcats won 45 games. Henderson guided his team into the postseason with hopes that they could make a run. However, Kentucky lost. The Wildcats fell in their first game, won both elimination games, and then fell in the first of two possible championship games.
Then, in 2014, Gary Henderson guided his Wildcats to a 37 win season. That year, Kentucky got bounced from the Louisville Regional in similar fashion to their 2012 loss.
And now, our questions have been answered.
Any sort of doubt that Henderson could get MSU to a Super Regional has been squashed. He can do it. And he in fact did it. He may not get another chance to do it, but that doesn’t matter right now.
Right now, Henderson has to get his team ready to play Vanderbilt.

Mississippi State and Henderson are Super Regional bound. The Bulldogs are hoping for more than just that this season. Now, they have a chance to get Henderson to Omaha for the first time too. MSU simply needs two more wins to get there.
