The Mississippi State baseball team beat down Oklahoma to win the 2018 Tallahassee Regional

All in all, the 2018 trip to Tallahassee was a pretty good one for the Mississippi State baseball team. The Bulldogs dropped their first game in frustrating fashion, losing by an embarrassing 10 runs to the Oklahoma Sooners on Friday. Since then, MSU has been on a tear and won four consecutive elimination games.

That’s including the game that sealed the Tallahassee Regional Championship in MSU’s favor. The Mississippi State baseball team beat Oklahoma by a score of 8-1 to claim the 2018 Tallahassee Regional, defying all odds in the process.

You see, up until this moment, no team has ever won two regionals in back to back years after dropping the first game of the regional. In all of college baseball history, the Mississippi State Bulldogs are the first to accomplish the feat.

This is a game that MSU controlled for the majority of it. Oklahoma took an early lead by putting a run on the board in the 2nd inning. However, Mississippi State overtook that lead in the 4th inning and never looked back.

On a RBI double from Justin Foscue, MSU claimed a 2-1 lead in the 4th. Rowdey Jordan added another run with a single in the 5th, extending that lead out to 3-1. And then in the 8th, MSU added one more run to stretch the lead out to 4-1.

And in the 9th inning, Mississippi State added four more runs up on the scoreboard. Jordan Westburg hit a single that moved the lead to 6-1. Following him was Jake Mangum, hitting a two-run homer to make the lead 8-1 and securing the win for the Bulldogs.

Now, the Mississippi State baseball team is moving on to the Super Regionals. For the third time in three years and with a third head coach in that stretch, the Bulldogs are in a Super Regional. Gary Henderson and his staff have done an incredible job.
