The Mississippi State baseball team thumped the Oklahoma Sooners tonight

Mississippi State baseball continues to surprise folks. In what could be considered a third elimination game down in Tallahassee for the Bulldogs, the Mississippi State baseball team emerged victorious to force another game in the Tallahassee Regional.

Denver McQuary took the mound to start things off for the Bulldogs. And for the most part, McQuary pitched well in a gutty performance. Through 3.0 innings pitched, Mcquary struck out three batters, issued three walks, took a hit to his throwing hand, and faced 17 batters. All in all, not a bad performance for a spot starter on this team.

Thankfully, McQuary was able to get plenty of run support from his teammates. The Mississippi State baseball team piled 13 runs up on the board thanks to 14 hits and a pair of errors from the Sooners. MSU exploded for 8 runs in the top of the 3rd inning, blowing the game open with a 9-0 lead. Mississippi State then held on to win 13-5.

Cole Gordon took the mound in relief for McQuary and gave the rest of the Bulldogs’ pitchers plenty of rest. In what is arguably the best performance of Gordon’s career, the junior pitcher threw 6.0 innings of relief action. That accumulated up to 112 pitches for Gordon.

But, in that time, Gordon struck out 10 batters and only allowed 4 earned runs. He gave Mississippi State a chance to play for and win this regional.
