Cole Gordon made sure Mississippi State baseball had plenty of arms for the final game of the Tallahassee Regional

The Mississippi State baseball team has to be thankful for Cole Gordon’s presence on the mound tonight. Mississippi State, like most teams at this point in a regional, is running thin on pitchers that are ready to play. But, Cole Gordon just gave the Bulldogs a solid chance tomorrow.

MSU now has a shot to claim the Tallahassee Regional.

Again, it’s all because of Cole Gordon’s performance tonight.

Denver McQuary drew the start for the Mississippi State baseball team. Gary Henderson turned to McQuary in hopes that he’d be able to get the Bulldogs through several innings. And he started well. In a tough performance, McQuary got through 3.0 innings and struck out a trio of Oklahoma’s batters.

But McQuary couldn’t make it past that.

And that left Henderson and MSU looking for someone else to turn to. Cole Gordon was that guy. And Cole Gordon did more than what was expected of him in the game against the Sooners.

Through 6.0 innings and 112 pitches, Gordon struck out 10 batters. This comes after a recent appearance where Gordon fell apart. On Friday against Oklahoma, Cole Gordon faced three batters and gave up three earned runs. He was completely unable to make it out of even one third of an inning.

But, against Oklahoma tonight, Cole Gordon absolutely dealt and cut his way through the Oklahoma lineup. Mississippi State came away with a 13-5 win tonight.

Next: Mississippi State Will Play For The Tallahassee Regional Tomorrow

And because of that, the Mississippi State baseball team has a chance to take on Oklahoma one more time. This time, MSU will get to play for the regional and a chance to move on to a super regional. The Bulldogs were able to get their pitchers some more rest. That’s all because Cole Gordon did something that seemed borderline impossible for him to do just a couple of games ago.
