Nick Fitzgerald Will Need A Heisman Moment In 2018

To truly garner attention toward a Heisman campaign in 2018, Nick Fitzgerald is going to need at least one moment that dazzles and captures the attention of onlookers. He is going to need a Heisman moment in this season.

What exactly is a “Heisman moment”?

Any sort of spectacular performance when a candidate for the Heisman trophy puts themselves above the others with a play, or a game, can be labeled a Heisman moment. It can be anything from a dominant amount of production in a single game that is above their normal high level of play for the season or it could be a single play that transfixes the audience and commands attention.

One such perfect example would be Johnny Manziel’s play against Alabama in the 2012 season. One could theoretically define that entire game as a his Heisman moment given that he carried his team over the eventual national title winner. After all, Manziel completed 77.4 percent of his passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns while also running for 92 yards on 18 carries.

On top of that, that game was in Tuscaloosa. Manziel was unstoppable against Nick Saban’s defense in Saban’s own backyard.

But, the specific moment that I’m referencing is this play right here.

It’s bizarre. It’s extraordinary. And it shows that Manziel is playing at a higher level than his competition. This play, and this game, elevated Johnny Manziel’s Heisman consideration and pushed it through the roof.

It helped define his Heisman season. Nick Fitzgerald is going to need something akin to that. And those don’t exactly come around all that often.
