Mississippi State softball will likely have a difficult time in the SEC Softball Tournament

The Mississippi State softball team officially made it into the Southeastern Conference Tournament. The SEC is loaded and though the Bulldogs have been solid for most of the year, MSU faced problems when facing opponents from the SEC.

But, regardless of that, the Bulldogs are in. And now, in theory, they have a chance to go and win the tournament. However, it shouldn’t be perceived that this tournament will be easy. The Mississippi State softball team will have to overcome quite a bit in order to make it to the even the semifinal round of the tournament on Friday.

Mississippi State’s first opponent of the tournament will be the Texas A&M Aggies. The Bulldogs came close with the Aggies earlier on this season and almost took the series, but still fell short. Now they’ll have a chance again.

MSU and A&M will play tomorrow morning at 11:00 am central time.

Should Mississippi State make it beyond the Aggies and into the second round of the SEC Tournament, MSU will then have to face the South Carolina Gamecocks. The Gamecocks are the 3rd seed team and earned a bye. And, well, MSU was swept by USC earlier this year.

If, and that’s a big if, MSU wins there, the Bulldogs will advance on to the semifinals. They’ll face the someone from the mix of Kentucky, Arkansas, and Georgia. UK and Arkansas play in the first round and UGA gets the winner of that matchup after earning a bye.

Can Mississippi State make a run at this thing? In theory, yes. But, the Bulldogs don’t typically fare well against SEC foes and, well, the SEC Tournament is made up exclusively of teams from the Southeastern Conference.
