Defensive End

The defensive line is going to be an incredibly strong position for the Bulldogs in 2018. Montez Sweat was a star a season ago, and he looks to continue shining in the upcoming football season as well.

The Bulldogs are doing some slight shuffling on their defensive front given that Bob Shoop is bringing in a 4-2-5 system as the primary defense for Mississippi State this season. But, the Mississippi State football team has a wealth of depth and talent up front for Shoop to work with.

  • Starter- Montez Sweat
    •  Sweat should continue to wreak havoc on opposing offenses. Assuming he doesn’t get jammed up with double teams all season, which he shouldn’t given who else is on this defensive line, he’ll continue to make big plays for the Bulldogs.
  • Backup- Kobe Jones
    • Jones adds quality depth and is a very solid backup for the Bulldogs here. Don’t be surprised to see him on the field when Sweat takes a breather.
  • Backup- Marquiss Spencer
    • Spencer was Sweat’s backup in 2017. That shouldn’t change much throughout the season. His presence does give MSU yet another option when rotating through players though.
