Mississippi State football could produce three first round picks for the 2019 NFL Draft

Mississippi State football is primed for a pretty big season in 2019. The Bulldogs are returning the bulk of their production from a year ago and are headlined by some pretty big names and some pretty talented players.

Nick Fitzgerald, Montez Sweat, and Jeffery Simmons will all be receiving plenty of attention from opponents and media alike in 2018. There’ll be plenty of accomplishments from the trio to write about during this upcoming football season.

But, before we even get there, some are already paying close attention to these three. Largely because they could be three first round picks in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Matt Miller of Bleacher Report has all three of these players going in the first round of next year’s draft.

How does the draft shake out according to Matt Miller?

In his predictions, the first of the three of that Miller has going off the NFL Draft Board is Jeffery Simmons. With the 21st pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, Miller is predicting that the Atlanta Falcons will take Simmons to come in and beef up their defensive front. With Simmons’ high ceiling and blend of athleticism and size, he’d be a great addition to any defensive line.

Then, one pick later, Matt Miller is predicting that the Jacksonville Jaguars will take quarterback Nick Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald is a tall, strong, and incredibly quick quarterback. He’s one of the most dynamic players in all of college football. Assuming he stays healthy and can polish up his passing skillset, he’ll probably have a shot at making it into the first round.

And finally, at pick number 29, Miller projects that the San Fransisco 49ers will draft Montez Sweat. Sweat is a powerful defensive end that excelled last season and was one of the best defensive linemen in college football last year. His pass rushing skills set him up for a lot of success in 2018 and potentially land him as a first round pick.

Having three first round picks in the 2019 draft would likely mean a few things for Mississippi State. First, it’d mean that the Bulldogs probably had a spectacular season in 2018, something many are expecting. Second, it’d mean that these three players all contributed in key ways to that success, something that we’re all predicting. Third, it’d gain a lot of recognition for a program that has been on the rise for the past few years.
