Luke Alexander gave Mississippi State baseball the win over Ole Miss last night

Mississippi State baseball just beat Ole Miss.

Again.

For the third time this season, the Mississippi State baseball team sent No. 6 Ole Miss home as the losers of another rivalry game. And, as it turns out, this also happens to be the third straight victory for the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the annual Governor’s Cup.

There’s a lot that we can unpack about how impressive that is. But, what’s really impressive and pertinent to this right now, in this moment, is how Mississippi State won last night.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs and the 6th ranked Ole Miss Rebels battled back and forth all night, trading runs and making exciting plays through the evening. And then, in the bottom of the 9th inning, Ole Miss held a one run lead over the Mississippi State baseball team.

Luke Alexander made sure that said lead didn’t remain intact for very long. Just as he did earlier this season, Luke Alexander beat No. 6 Ole Miss on a walk-off hit. Last time, it was a two-run homer in extra innings back in Dudy Noble.

This time, it was a double that allowed two runs to score for Mississippi State.

Mississippi State baseball may have just found a way to get back into this season. But, it’ll take more than a combined 6 wins over highly ranked teams like Ole Miss and Arkansas to cement that. The Mississippi State Bulldogs must continue to win and use this as a springboard for success for the rest of the year. If MSU can do that, then the Bulldogs will have a chance come SEC Tournament time.
