Mississippi State Baseball Just Took Down the Third Ranked Team in the Nation

For the second time this weekend, Mississippi State baseball beat Ole Miss. The 3rd ranked team in the nation simply couldn’t handle Mississippi State this weekend. Today, in extra innings, the Bulldogs sent Ole Miss packing thanks to Luke Alexander.

The game went back and forth all afternoon. Mississippi State claimed an early lead then surrendered it to the Rebels. MSU tied it up later and Ole Miss pushed back ahead. Later, Mississippi State claimed a lead only for Ole Miss to take it back.

In the bottom of the 9th inning, Mississippi State tied things up and forced extra innings. The fact that the Bulldogs were still in this game is in large part thanks to Jake Mangum. In the bottom of the 9th, Mangum tied things up again.

Mississippi State’s pitchers kept the Bulldogs in the game but the bats simply couldn’t come together at the right moment for MSU to take a win away from Ole Miss. Until the bottom of the 11th that is.

Jake Mangum made his way onto base. And Luke Alexander ended it all with a home run.

Mississippi State is now 17-16 on the year and are 4-8 in conference play. These wins will certainly help the team’s motivation and build momentum forward. The Bulldogs can still make the postseason, but it’ll take a few more upsets like this one to get there. But, for now, MSU will celebrate this win. April is a tough month, but Luke Alexander, Jake Mangum, and the rest of the MSU baseball team gave fans a reason to celebrate.
