Mississippi State Baseball Hit The Road And Claimed A Dominant Win Over Alabama State

Mississippi State Baseball continued its winning ways when the Bulldogs took on Alabama State. The bats caught fire when MSU played and the Bulldogs won 15-4 in Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama.

Mississippi State’s 15 runs came off of an astonishing 23 hits. The Bulldogs simply had no issue making contact in the contest. And, as such, MSU scored 7 runs in the top of the 1st inning.

Luke Alexander hit a RBI double to start the evening off. Hunter Stovall followed him up with a RBI single. Then, thanks to a fielding error, MSU added another run. Jordan Westburg then added to the total with a 2 RBI homer. And finally, Alexander got a chance to bat again and hit a single that made MSU’s lead 7-0.

Mississippi State Baseball Cruised to Victory from There

State added two more runs in the 3rd inning and another run in the 4th, all of which came via fly outs. MSU’s lead was 10-0 at this point. A pair of RBI singles by Tanner Poole and Dustin Skelton gave MSU a 12-0 lead.

Alabama State then added a few runs to their side of the scoreboard and cut the lead to 12-4. But, Mississippi State added three more runs in the 8th inning, tallying up the final score to 15-4.

Denver McQuary earned the start for Mississippi State and did well in his time on the mound. In 5.0 innings pitched, McQuary faced 21 batters and struck out 4 of them. He did allow 5 hits and gave out a pair of walks, but didn’t allow a single run. McQuary earned the win in his time on the mound.

Riley Self came in for MSU and gave up 3 earned runs in 1.2 innings. Self also struck out a pair of batters. From there, MSU turned to Cole Marsh for 1.1 innings and then Keegan James for the final frame of the game. Marsh sat a batter down on strikes and James struck out all three batters he faced.

Now, Mississippi State is 18-16 on the year and 4-8 in SEC play. The Bulldogs are staying in Alabama for the weekend as they scoot over on to Auburn to battle the Tigers.

MSU could use another series win in conference play and Auburn hasn’t been as hot lately. With Mississippi State needing wins down the stretch, this is a must win series for State. And, well, should the Bulldogs win it, many fans will feel more optimistic about this team.
