Mississippi State Baseball Needed Some Extra Inning Magic, But the Bulldogs Bested the 3rd Ranked Ole Miss Rebels

Mississippi State baseball has done it again. The Bulldogs tackled the Ole Miss Rebels and took the series from the 3rd ranked team in the nation. Mississippi State has proven that this season isn’t over and the Bulldogs intend to keep fighting in it with the 7-5 extra innings win today.

The Bulldogs struck first, getting Jake Mangum across home plate with a sacrifice fly in the 1st inning. Ole Miss later came back in and took a 2-1 lead. Then, in the bottom of the 3rd, Tanner Allen singled up the middle to score Mangum again, tying the game.

MSU and Ole Miss traded the lead back and forth as the Rebels claimed the lead in the 5th and MSU took it back in the 7th inning. However, Ole Miss pushed back ahead in the 9th with a 5-4 lead.

With an out and the game on the line, Mangum came through for MSU yet again, pushing Tanner Poole across home plate with a single of his own, tying the game at 5 runs each. As the game headed into extra innings, the Bulldogs won it in the bottom of the 11th as Luke Alexander hit a two run jack with two outs, giving MSU a 7-5 win.

After beating Ole Miss, the Bulldogs are 17-16 and 4-8 in the SEC. Mississippi State has a lot of work to do. And it’s possible that MSU can’t turn everything around at this point. But, regardless, the Bulldogs claimed a huge win today and yesterday. They’ve beaten Ole Miss 7 out of the last 8 times. That’s pretty good.
