Mississippi State Women’s Basketball: Check Out The Rest of the Kansas City Region
By Ethan Lee
Here’s All of the Teams in Mississippi State’s Side of the Bracket
For the first time in Mississippi State history, the women’s basketball team is a top seeded team in the NCAA Tournament. In the Kansas City Region, Mississippi State has checked in at the number one spot.
So now, let’s check out who Mississippi State will face along the road to a national title.
First and foremost, the Bulldogs will take on Nicholls State this Saturday. Assuming that the inconceivable doesn’t happen, MSU will then host the winner of Syracuse and Oklahoma State in Starkville as well.
From there, it’s impossible to predict what might happen. So, because of that, let’s look through everyone that is in the Kansas City Region and see who might threaten the Bulldogs’ title hopes this year.
Let’s jump into the region and get a look at the entire field:
The Longhorns and Bruins Could Theoretically Be A Problem
There’s a sentiment amongst MSU fans that the Bulldogs are just about unbeatable. And I actually tend to agree with it. This year, it took a generational talent in A’Ja Wilson to beat Mississippi State. And it took the Gamecocks two tries to do it. But, as Mississippi State fans are well aware from last season’s success over UConn, even juggernauts can be taken down.
The most obvious obstacles, at least on paper, come in the form of the University of Texas Longhorns and the UCLA Bruins. UT is 26-6 on the season as the second seed in the region and UCLA is 24-7 coming in as the third seed.
It’s totally possible that Mississippi State can go through this region with ease. It’s also possible that they will be pushed and challenged. Thankfully, MSU gets to start this run at home in Starkville. Building momentum before moving forward will be important. Especially with Texas and UCLA as possible opponents.
Here is the Rest of the Field
Mississippi State’s road to a national title won’t be easy. The Bulldogs will have some tough tests up ahead. However, if there’s any consolation, Mississippi State won’t have to face South Carolina or UConn in their side of the bracket. Barring an upset, the Gamecocks and Huskies will likely have to go through each other to make it to the Final Four.
From across the field, either of those two teams would cause issues for Vic Schaefer and Mississippi State. The Bulldogs will also have to keep an eye out for Baylor and Notre Dame, two notoriously good teams this year.
But, Schaefer has built a tough team that can score on anyone while also grinding opposing offenses to a halt. This is a team built to succeed. This is a team built to compete for a national title.
