Lamar Peters Held off LSU’s Comeback

In a herculean effort, Mississippi State men’s basketball’s Lamar Peters dominated tonight. And it wasn’t just minor plays that slowly carried the Bulldogs past the LSU Tigers. Peters scored 24 points, leading Mississippi State in scoring, and also got 6 assists on the evening.

But to get all of that, Peters made big plays all night and had a few highlights. One of which was getting one of LSU’s star players off balance for a huge score. As a freshman, Tremont Waters has been incredible.

He’s had a phenomenal season for the LSU Tigers. Prior to tonight’s game, Waters was averaging 15.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. His season has kept the Tigers moving forward and carried them upward.

However, Lamar Peters got the best of the All-SEC Freshman guard. In the first half, Peters was on a scoring tear, and in the process, moved right on past Waters. Lamar Peters caught Waters off guard, broke his ankles, moved beyond all of LSU’s defenders, and flew through the air to score against the Tigers.

Waters, to his credit, had a phenomenal game of his own. He carried the Tigers back into the game in a huge way. Waters came out and became a problem, scoring 28 points, dishing 6 assists, and grabbing 4 rebounds. Waters hit 10 of 20 shots to get those 28 points and was 5 of 10 from beyond the three point arc.

However, it wasn’t enough. And now the Tigers are eliminated from the SEC Tournament. Mississippi State, however, is looking to continue battling and will play Tennessee tomorrow. The Bulldogs and Vols will face each other at 6:00 tomorrow.
