Lack of Leadership is MSU’s biggest weakness

MSU has a leadership problem that effects every aspect of the team.

It wasn’t that Dak is a great player, because he was/is. It was his leadership and work ethic that propelled MSU to success in 2014 and 2015….and some in 2013 as well. Without his presence, the Bulldogs have fallen down a pit without any guidance from team leaders.

I’m not in the locker room – I get it. Save your tweets, facebook comments and e-mails. But what I can tell you is obvious to everyone who is watching: MSU has a lack of leadership.

There are some coaching changes that need to be made, but that’s not the main source of the problem. The leadership void has sucked the life from this team, and has them sitting at 2-5 instead of 5-2.

Look at the effort on the field. The lack of awareness that comes from solid preparation. Focus, consistency, determination. This team lacks all of that, and it’s a direct result of poor leadership.

There are seniors on the team who you’d expect to be leaders, but they are quiet guys. Last year’s team lost a lot of top talent aside from Dak that makes the void even bigger. The only time this team plays hard is when Dan Mullen is intense.

Team chemistry is developed in the offseason, and leadership is an offshoot of that. But our QB is dating an NFL cheerleader, one of the best wide receivers in program history has a case of the drops and the the junior class is non-existant. The seniors aren’t leading, juniors have no talent, so that leaves you with a bunch of underclassmen feeling their way through.

What we’re left with is a team that lacks an identity, doesn’t know how to win, and spends time searching their names on twitter. Here’s a couple of tweets that were “liked” by Damian Williams:

Quit searching your name on Twitter! Of course, he’s not nearly as bad as Elijah Staley was. I’ve never had a MSU player publicly comment on my stories until this year. Staley was the first, now Brandon Holloway is calling me out:

Back to Damian Williams, who called out Bob Carskadon this summer for his light-hearted piece on the players’ facial hair. Saying he thought they were “family”.

My goodness, can we take a break from this junk? I’ve lost count on how many people have told me I’m hurting the program for being negative. That recruits won’t come to MSU because of my articles. Seriously? First, we are currently ranked 20th in the country for the 2017 class. Second, I don’t want the kids who are reading my articles like those mentioned above. Find me some tough SOB’s, please.

The culture among college kids these days has undoubtedly creeped into our team. They need a “safe space”, just like some of the people who can’t read my critiques about this team. That’s probably 2% of MSU fans out there, but like everything else in society, they scream “foul” at every turn.

Get focused on football, and quit reading my articles or listening to podcasts or searching your name on Twitter. Block it all out. If you want us to believe you’re brothers like we’re being sold on “Relentless videos”, then band together and play better.

I’m ready for this year to end, and ready for the youngsters to assume a leadership role and to get some new blood on this team.
