How does the Maroon and White Nation team think Mississippi State football will fare in 2016?

The college football season is quickly approaching. The level of hope around the Mississippi State football program isn’t exactly at an all time high. The departure of several key players and, most importantly, the uncertainty at quarterback has MSU fans unsure how to feel entering 2016. Don’t worry Bulldog fans, the staff at M&WN is here to help. We are going to breakdown every game dand tell you whether or not we believe MSU will win and why.

It is undeniable that the University of Alabama is one of the greatest football programs of all time. Over the past ten years no program has had more success. Although some of the most recent matchups between Alabama and Mississippi State have been high profile, the Bulldogs haven’t beat the Crimson Tide since 2007. The Alabama game has been a momentum killer for MSU over the past few years. In 2012, the Bulldogs lost four of their last five games starting with Bama. In 2014, MSU lost two of their last three after a loss to the Tide. In both cases the Bulldogs entered the game undefeated. Can the Bulldogs end the streak and beat Bama in 2016?

My Pick

MSU should be rolling full steam ahead going into Bryant-Denny Stadium. I expect the Dawgs to have won six in a row at this point in the year. But Alabama is a different animal. The Crimson Tide have more talent, a better coach, and are playing at home. I think the Bulldogs hold their own for most of the game but Bama gets the W.

Loss at Alabama – I’m predicting State to go into Tuscaloosa with a nice 7-2 record once again and get beat once again.

Andrew Norwood

The team to end all teams on this one. Alabama will come into this game with MAYBE one loss on the season (and no, Rebels, it’s not to you). Saban’s got the machine rolling at full-speed, and there’s nothing Mullen and Co. can do to stop it. Easy 24 point victory for the Tide.

Dawg Smack

We’re not beating Alabama this year.  No real need to discuss in detail.

A unanimous loss for the Bulldogs but the certainly isn’t the end of the world. MSU should still be in great shape for a successful season after a loss in Tuscaloosa. The important thing is you can’t let the wheels fall off. The Bulldogs have to regain momentum and finish the year strong. Here’s the predictions so far:

  • Jared: 8-2
  • Josh: 7-3
  • Andrew:7-3
  • Dawg Smack: 6-4
