How does the Maroon and White Nation team think MSU football will fare in 2016?

The college football season is quickly approaching. The level of hope around the Mississippi State football program isn’t exactly at an all time high. The departure of several key players and, most importantly, the uncertainty at quarterback has MSU fans unsure how to feel entering 2016. Don’t worry Bulldog fans, the staff at M&WN is here to help. We are going to breakdown every game and tell you whether or not we believe MSU will win and why.

The similarities between MSU and Texas A&M are endless. Both teams wear maroon and white. Both are clothed by Adidas. Both are their state’s main “cow college.” And it’s entirely possible both are fighting for the SEC West title by the time they meet each other in early November. A&M enter the SEC in a blaze on the back of Johnny Manziel but have fallen back to earth since he left. Both MSU and A&M are trying to find the way to take a step into the upper level of SEC teams and this game could help the winner do just that.

My Pick

MSU has only beat A&M once since they entered the SEC, although the two teams have had some good games. I don’t think the Aggies will have their normal November struggles this year because I don’t think they’ll have their normal hot start. I could be wrong of course, if Trevor Knight can play at an all SEC level. But I like the Bulldogs by a touchdown here.

Win vs. Texas A&M – recent history says you want A&M in November because they are a hot mess. Hopefully that trend continues. I really think this game could go either way, kind of like I do the Auburn game, so I picked one as a win and one as a loss. This one gives the Bulldogs a ‘W’ for their fourth in a row.

The Aggies come to town, and in typical fashion they will be floundering and the Aggies will be calling for Coach Sumlin’s head by this point. While their yell leaders may be leading a couple of chants and Whoops during the game, they won’t be able to come into Davis Wade and defeat the Dawgs this year. 14 point victory for the Dawgs.

Dawg Smack

Who knows where A&M will be at this point in the season?  They certainly have a ton of talent.  But will the wheels be completely off the Sumlin regime at this point?  I hope so, but I think they may have too much talent for us. I’m going with the Aggies.

For the fourth time in these game-by-game predictions we’ve been split with a 3-1 vote. Here’s the tally so far:

  • Jared: 8-1
  • Josh: 7-2
  • Andrew: 7-2
  • Dawg Smack: 6-3
