How does the Maroon and White Nation team think MSU football will fare in 2016?

The college football season is quickly approaching. The level of hope around the Mississippi State football program isn’t exactly at an all time high. The departure of several key players and, most importantly, the uncertainty at quarterback has MSU fans unsure how to feel entering 2016. Don’t worry Bulldog fans, the staff at M&WN is here to help. We are going to breakdown every game and tell you whether or not we believe MSU will win and why.

The eighth game of the 2016 season will be homecoming at Davis Wade Stadium. The Mississippi State Bulldogs will host the Samford Bulldogs on October 29th. Samford went 6-5 in 2015 and scored a bunch of points, averaging 34.6 per game. That could present a problem for MSU’s inexperienced and not very deep secondary. But could it be enough for the MSU Bulldogs to lose?

More from Mississippi State Football

My Pick

This one’s easy. MSU should be significantly better talent wise. The secondary may give up some plays but this one will not be close. State wins by four touchdowns.

Josh Barnhill

Win vs. Samford – easy win so I’ll talk about the “stripe out”. This was done vs. Louisiana Tech last year. Why? I think the stripe out is a cool idea, but only if the stadium is full. We can guarantee it won’t be full for Samford. Against LA Tech it was only full in the lower section for the first half, and spotty everywhere else. Samford will be worse

Ah homecoming, where everyone comes together and watches Miss Mississippi State University be crowned at the 50 yard line. Students, you may want to stick around for the end of this game, because the team will need you. Samford is not a team to be taken lightly this season, and it will take a couple of late scores to win this game. 9 point victory for the Bulldogs on Homecoming.

Dawg Smack

Don’t know much about them, but this is supposed to be a rent-a-win and I’m going to say it will turn out just that way. We should be bowl eligible by this point in the season.

Predictions to this point:

  • Jared: 7-1
  • Josh: 6-2
  • Andrew: 6-2
  • Dawg Smack: 6-2

A win on homecoming and the Bulldogs are bowl eligible. With four weeks left in the season the Bulldogs are in prime position to make a run at the SEC West.
