The recruitment of Raekwon Davis is the latest of numerous recruiting headaches I can’t stand.

Mississippi State picked up a commitment from four star defensive lineman Raekwon Davis. Well, at least we think they did.

So what is up with the confusion? A lost phone seemed to be the issue.

Davis had lost his phone, and whoever had it, started sending out texts he was still committed to Alabama. At least that is what I have gathered. And since coaches can’t comment publicly on unsigned prospects, we don’t get any clarification from them. And then this just happened.

And as so many recruits are known to do, Davis himself sent out this tweet not long ago.

I love college football, and I love the Bulldogs. But nothing is perfect, and the world of recruiting is the part I have to learn to stomach every single year.

Recruiting is the lifeblood of every college program. If you want to succeed, you need to bring in the best athletes to your team. And since everyone is out there gunning for the same top prospects as Mississippi State, it makes determining what is real and what is rumor hard to determine.

We have a little over two weeks until we reach National Signing Day for 2016. There probably will be other stories similar to this, especially regarding the top-level recruits like A.J. Brown and Jeffrey Simmons.

It’s great when the Bulldogs pick up commitments from highly regarded prospects. It’s even better when Mississippi State can convince players in state like Raekwon Davis to stay home. But until the letters of intent are signed and faxed to the Athletic Department, I’ll reserve my excitement for that time.
