#8: 1962 – Mississippi State 49 vs. Kentucky 44

This was a huge game at the time. It was #8 MSU traveling to #2 Kentucky. The Wildcats were as good back then as they are today, and this was their only loss in SEC play.

This win over UK gave State the tie-breaker to win the SEC championship in 1962. It was the Bulldogs second consecutive league title.

State finished the year 24-1 (13-1) – the only loss coming on the road at Vanderbilt. Despite such a finish they were forced to sit out the NCAA Tournament due to prejudiced laws against them playing in it, and Kentucky went in their stead. The Cats beat Butler in the Regional Semifinal, but lost to Ohio State in the Elite 8.
