#21: 2007 SEC Tournament – Mississippi State 84 vs. Kentucky 82.

2006 was a tough rebuilding year for State as they went 15-15, and 2007 was a step back into prominence. The Bulldogs were led by Jamont Gordon (16/7.1), Charles Rhodes (13.7/6.2) and Dietric Slater (10.5/5.7). MSU won the SEC West with a 8-8 conference record, and were 17-12 coming into this game.

Kentucky had a down year finishing 4th in the SEC East. They had beaten Alabama on Thursday of the SEC Tournament. This game was the first game of the day on Friday.

State went on to win the game in overtime. The next day, MSU’s slim NCAA Tourney chances were dashed in a loss to Arkansas.

This would end up being Tubby Smith’s final season at Kentucky. MSU ended up with a #1 seed in the NIT, but that ended painfully against West Virginia in the tournament’s final four.
