On the other hand…
There’s an old saying that if you have two quarterbacks, you don’t have any. And while it is nice to see both quarterbacks play well, it could become an issue.
When Dan Mullen feels like he has two quarterbacks that can play, he will play both of them. And I hate it when he starts rotate quarterbacks in and out of the game. Mullen has said in the past he believes the quarterback position is no different than any other, and he doesn’t see why you can’t change them out like a running back or an offensive lineman.
I don’t know if that is just coach talk by Mullen, or if he really believes it, but I don’t like it when we do. The offense gets no rhythm, and it looks really bad. There won’t be many chances for the backups to get significant playing time going forward.
And while everyone was making Fitzgerald the anointed quarterback to be, Staley shows he has the talent to compete for the job. Fitzgerald had a huge head start, but Staley isn’t just going to hand the keys to the car over without giving him a run for his money.
