MSU cruised to an easy victory against Northwestern State on Saturday afternoon, 62-13.

Basically the Bulldogs got whatever they wanted without much resistance. That’s usually the case against FCS teams, but NW State isn’t even a good FCS team. Mississippi State scored on eight of ten possessions, with only a Dak Prescott fumble and a late 4th quarter turnover on downs accounting for non-scoring drives.

Prescott played the first half and did really well. He was 10 of 11 for 227 yards and a couple of touchdowns. He set the MSU all-time mark for most career passing yards in this game, passing Wayne Madkin.

The defense played a pretty good game allowing just 257 total yards. They were not able to force any turnovers.

The standout player in this game was Donald Gray who caught four balls for 140 yards with a touchdown. One of the catches featured the defensive back draped all over him on a pass interference call but he still managed to contort his body for the catch inside the 10 yard line.

Nick Fitzgerald and Elijah Staley both got playing time. Fitz had three touchdown scoring drives: 100%. Staley was one of two but the one was pretty spectacular when he lofted an effortless 37 yard pass to Joe Morrow in the endzone – it was an absolutely perfect touch pass that hit him in stride.

The running game got going to the tune of 275 yards. Dontavian Lee led the way with 57 yards on five carries. Ashton Shumpert added 55 yards and Aeries Williams with 36.
