MSU ranked 37th in Phil Steele’s preseason power poll

facebooktwitterreddit

Phil Steele released his preseason power poll Thursday, where the Mississippi State checked in at number 37.

Steele states that he relies on nine different power ratings that look at different factors to determine his rankings. The power poll consists of numerous computer rankings.

According to Steele, teams such as Auburn, Arkansas, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and UCLA are top 20 teams, and all have better talent than the Bulldogs.

According to “human” facts, most of those teams lose just as many key players off their 2014 team as the Bulldogs do, and I would be willing to bet that MSU has just as much production returning -if not more- than each one of them.

So what am I missing here?

More from Mississippi State Football

I think I might know the answer to that. On paper the Bulldogs lose several starters on both sides of the ball, but in reality Miss. State returns seven starters on defense and seven on offense – including one of the most explosive players in the nation, Dak Prescott.

As Bulldogs head coach Dan Mullen says, just because they didn’t play the first snap of the game doesn’t mean they aren’t starter material.

I think a lot of people will start taking notice of the Bulldogs again on September 12th, right around 11 P.M.

Mr. Steele, about the end of November, I promise not to let you forget just how wrong your numerous “computer” rankings are about Mississippi State football, because this has definitely been bookmarked.
