Predicting the MSU Predictions at SEC Media Days

facebooktwitterreddit

About two hours after this publishes, the Bulldogs will be the focus of the media circus that is known as SEC Media Days. Official media predictions won’t come out until later this week, but since today is the day for the Bulldogs to shine, why not take a stab at what the media will predict for the Bulldogs.

Predicted Order of Finish in the SEC West

  1. Auburn
  2. Alabama
  3. LSU
  4. Ole Miss
  5. Arkansas
  6. Texas A&M
  7. Mississippi State

Understand this is where I think the media will predict the SEC West. The most talked about point for Mississippi State fans has been how everyone is predicting the Bulldogs to finish last. As a matter of fact, the only two I am sure about is 6th and 7th. I could see Auburn or Alabama being predicted 1st, and I could see LSU, Ole Miss, and Arkansas all being in some order other than what I have here. But I’m about 99% certain the Aggies get picked 6th and the Bulldogs get picked 7th.

1st Team All SEC

  1. QB Dak Prescott

This will be the dumbest thing that happens at SEC Media Days all week long. If Dak Prescott finishes as the 1st Team All SEC Quarterback, the Bulldogs will be no lower than 3rd in the SEC West. I might could see them finishing 4th, but it won’t be any lower than that. If the Bulldogs finish last, Dak Prescott will not be the 1st Team All SEC Quarterback. The people who are going to vote like this know this is the logic they will use in December to pick the actual teams, but they are going to do it anyway. If any member of the media who votes like this reads this, I just want you to know you’re being dumb.

2nd Team All SEC

  1. DL Chris Jones
  2. DB Will Redmond
  3. LB Beniquez Brown

I’m almost certain Chris Jones will be on the second team. Had he performed better in 2014, he’d be on the first team. I think he ends up on the First Team at season’s end, but Jones disappointed a little bit in 2014. As a result, he’ll start the preseason on the Second Team.

Redmond and Brown I’m less confident about being on the 2nd Team. If they aren’t, I’m relatively certain they will be on the third team. If Diaz continues to substitute whole units at a time and as frequently as Geoff Collins did, the defensive players don’t have a ton of time to put up big numbers. It can hurt their chances to make All SEC squads.

3rd Team All SEC

  1. WR De’Runnya Wilson
  2. P Devon Bell

Wilson made a name for himself in 2014. He didn’t rack up a ton of yards, but he did accumulate 9 touchdowns. He was mismatch for a lot of the smaller DBs in the Conference, so I anticipate him being on one of the Preseason All SEC Teams. I could see him being on 2nd team, but the depth the Bulldogs have at Receiver may not allow Wilson to rack up big numbers.

I think Bell ends up on one of the teams, but I honestly don’t know which one. 3rd Team is the safest bet, so I’ll put him there.

Other Players Who Might Make Preseason Teams

  1. DE Ryan Brown
  2. OL Justin Senior

These guys have a chance to make it, but I think their chances are small. Based off of the number of starters the Bulldogs lost from 2014, the media’s low opinion of the Bulldogs, and the belief only returning players can make Preseason teams, don’t expect a lot of Bulldogs to be listed Preseason All SEC. It may not make Bulldog fans happy to see very few Bulldogs on the Preseason Teams, but it probably will make Mullen real happy. The media will be providing all kinds of motivation to his team.
