There is plenty to do and see this weekend in Starkville. But the two main attractions, as always, are the spring game and the baseball series.

For some reading material to get you prepared for the spring game, check out those handy links to the right.

In baseball, Florida comes in at #4 in the country. They are really good as per the usual. John Cohen and Kevin O’Sullivan have a not so friendly rivalry going, so things could get heated. We’ll see.

Somehow, the Dawgs have jumped almost 40 spots in the RPI from the 120s to the 80s after going 1-3 last week. Playing #1 in the country and winning one of them, plus playing all four games on the road helped things. After seeing that happen, you have to think maybe we jumped the gun on thinking State was toast. If somehow they can manage to win this series, that could catapult them near the top 50 (based on what happened last weekend).

This is a huge series. They will all be huge from here on out.

Lucas Laster has been solid with a quality start in each of his last six games. Preston Brown has been really good as well. If those two can keep it up we’ll have a chance to take the series on Sunday. The question is, who will pitch. Vance Tatum has been in that role, but he’s struggled in his last two games. Since Tuesday’s game vs. NW St. was cancelled due to weather, Austin Sexton did not pitch. Will he start, and move Tatum back to the ‘pen. It will be interesting to see what Cohen does.

Of course, it’s always interesting to see what Coach Cohen will do. Always. Hopefully he’s start Reid Humphreys the entire series and not try to get cute. And hopefully Jake Vickerson can get back from his stiff neck.

Should be fun! Hail State.
