It was a bad week for the SEC. Mississippi State blew a chance to get two teams in the Playoff. The SEC East went 0-4 against the ACC. A team that lost to Indiana will play in the Conference Championship game. The conference in general took a real hit in terms of how great many will think it is. So here is how I rank the SEC in the Power Rankings. Last week’s rankings are right here.

  1. Alabama 11-1 (Last Week 1) More interesting than most thought it would be. The Tide still won.
  2. Mississippi State 10-2 (Last Week 2) Call me a homer all you want, but State had one more win than Ole Miss, finished higher in the standings than Ole Miss, and will finish higher in the final polls if both schools have the same result in their bowl game.
  3. Missouri 10-2 (Last Week 4) Being the SEC East Champ should be worth something, so I give them number three.
  4. Ole Miss 9-3 (Last Week 6) The Rebels won the Egg Bowl and completed a really strange season. They beat the two teams most thought they shouldn’t on their SEC schedule and lost to three teams most thought they should have beat.
  5. Georgia 9-3 (Last Week 3) Maybe Georgia will put together a complete year once under Richt. 2014 was not that year.
  6. Auburn Tigers 8-4 (Last Week 5) They gave Bama a pretty good game, but ultimately fell short.
  7. LSU Tigers 8-4 (Last Week 9) The Bayou Bengals hope to use their win over the Aggies as a springboard into a better 2015.
  8. Arkansas Razorbacks 6-6 (Last Week 7) Arkansas made lots of improvements throughout 2014 and could be a sleeper in 2015.
  9. Texas A&M Aggies 7-5 (Last Week 8) Texas A&M has to figure out a way to play defense if they are going to have staying power in the SEC.
  10. Tennessee Volunteers 6-6 (Last Week 12) Since they were the only SEC East team besides Missouri to win, we might as well put them up to 10.
  11. South Carolina Gamecocks 6-6 (Last Week 10) Because someone has to go here.
  12. Florida Gators 6-5 (Last Week 11) Allowed Florida State to wiggle its way out of trouble. This would bother me a lot more if State hadn’t lost.
  13. Kentucky Wildcats 5-7 (Last Week 13) Six straight losses to end the season.
  14. Vanderbilt Commodores 3-9 (Last Week 14) Derek Mason will have one more year, but he is likely on a short leash.

The only thing that remains for SEC play is the championship game. May or may not revise them depending on how it goes, but the final Power Rankings will come out after the Bowl season is over. Time to prep up for that.
