There are still some minor issues in the secondary. For the most part, the performance that we saw by the guys in the defensive backfield was better than what we saw against South Alabama and UAB. South Alabama actually had more opportunities in the secondary than the LSU Tigers, but the Jaguars didn’t execute. LSU had very few chances but made them count when they had them.
If you want to know why the secondary will get better, you have to look to the most impressive front seven I have seen suit up at Mississippi State. The Tigers could not run the ball at all against this group. At some point, people are just going to stop trying. When that happens, the guys up front will just pin their ears back and harass quarterbacks into bad throws that the secondary will take advantage of when they do. This defensive front is impressive, and they flexed their muscle in Baton Rouge. The Tigers had less than 90 yards rushing on the night, and it completely changed the gameplan of the coaching staff for the Bayou Bengals. The defense will continue to exert their will on the opposing offenses as they get better. It’s scary to think these guys are actually going to get better.
