Super Bowl LIX is set. The Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans on February 9, a rematch of Super Bowl LVII just two years back. And it's a matchup Mississippi State Bulldogs fans will want to keep close tabs on, as we're guaranteed to see an MSU alum walk away with a ring.
Former Mississippi State defensive lineman Chris Jones going for fourth Super Bowl ring with the Kansas City Chiefs
At this point, the Super Bowl is just the Kansas City Chiefs invitational. After defeating the Bills in the AFC Championship Game, the Chiefs are in the Super Bowl for third-straight year, their fifth appearance in the last six years. They're looking to be the first team to win the title three-straight seasons.
That means that former Bulldog defensive lineman Chris Jones has a chance to make history. The Mississippi State product has been a fixture with the Chiefs throughout the entirety of their run. With three rings to his name and regular recognition as one of if not the best defensive lineman in the league, he's already put together a Hall of Fame career. Now he's got the chance to put himself in rare air if he can earn a fourth championship.
Former Mississippi State cornerback Darius Slay looking for his first Super Bowl ring with the Philadelphia Eagles
On the opposite sideline, another former MSU defender will take the field. Darius Slay has been one of the NFL's best cornerbacks for the past decade plus. After years of playing for middling Lions teams, Slay has gotten to start for a contender since joining the Eagles in 2020. Now after a dominant NFC Championship win over Washington, he gets his second chance to win a Super Bowl.
Slay was with the Eagles two years ago when they lost a thriller to Chris Jones' Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII. Now he'll look to win the rematch against Jones and Kansas City in New Orleans and win his first ring. A six-time Pro Bowler and one-time 1st Team All-Pro who's piled up impressive numbers throughout his career, the lone thing missing from Slay's resume is a championship. We'll see if he can finally change that.
