Three under the radar college football games to watch for Week 2 of the 2024 season

Even the games not getting much attention should be incredible this week.

There's tons of great action for Week 2 of the 2024 college football season, and as a result, even some of the games not getting a ton of buzz this week look to be fantastic. And with Mississippi State playing late at night, there's a chance to catch a lot more action this week.

Here are three under the radar games you'll want to keep an eye on this Saturday.

UTSA at Texas State

Saturday 3:00 PM CT on ESPNU

As Steven Godfrey of Split Zone Duo put it, this is the "G5 Hipster Game of the Week". Anyone who pays attention to CFB beyond the power conference teams has had this game circled as a must-watch. UTSA has been one of the top G5 programs over the last few seasons, but now they're transitioning to life without their superstar QB Frank Harris. They're still super talented and extremely well-coached, but this trip to San Marcos will be a huge test. Texas State burst onto the scene last season under HC GJ Kinne with an insanely fun and difficult to stop offense. Now they're a trendy pick to be the G5's playoff representative. Can they steal UTSA's throne as the top G5 team in the state of Texas?

Texas Tech at Washington State

Saturday 9:00 PM CT on FOX

Who doesn't want to watch The Pirate Bowl? Texas Tech and Washington State are both carrying on some of the Air Raid legacy that Mike Leach instilled in those programs, and as you can imagine, both had big days offensively in their respective season openers. But while Wazzu cruised over Portland State, Texas Tech nearly experienced disaster against Abilene Christian, winning 52-51 in overtime. They're hoping those game one jitters are out of the way as they head north to Pullman. This game should deliver a lot of big plays and plenty of points. And check this awesome game week poster from the Cougars paying tribute to Coach...

Boise State at 7 Oregon

Saturday 9:00 PM CT on Peacock

Calling this game "under the radar" is probably doing it a disservice because it's a matchup that a lot of college football fans are really excited for. But considering that it's a G5 program going on the road against a Top-10 team and will be shown exclusively on a streaming platform, I'm going to say it qualifies. Oregon is one of the national title favorites but put together an odd performance in their opener with FCS Idaho, winning just 24-14 despite a big day from QB Dillon Gabriel. Boise State, meanwhile, is coming off a wild 56-45 win at Georgia Southern in which RB Ashton Jeanty had what'll likely be the best rushing performance of the year with 267 yards and six TDs on just 20 carries. Jeanty is a superstar, and Boise is a good team. If Oregon is off yet again, Boise might make them pay.
