The 2024 college baseball season is starting to wind down a little bit and we're in the midst of conference play right now. As the SEC baseball season continues on and we get closer to figuring out what the SEC baseball tournament will end up looking like, it's important to keep an eye on more than just what happens to the Mississippi State baseball team.

Yes, there are a number of MSU baseball fans who only care about what happens in Dudy Noble Field (or whatever venue the Bulldogs are playing in during that weekend). But, college baseball is a perfect sport and there's a ton of fun to be had by looking around the Southeastern Conference.

Also, if you want to know how the Bulldogs might do in postseason play time, let's start paying close attention to the rest of the conference as that impacts the seeding for Hoover and the SEC Tournament.

So, as the SEC baseball season gets closer to hitting its home stretch, let's take a look at this weekend's slate, which is loaded with critical matchups and some high profile series.

SEC baseball schedule: April 12-14

Starting with Friday:

  • Missouri vs. Georgia (Fri. 4/12 5:00 PM CDT)
  • South Carolina vs. No. 24 Florida (Fri. 4/12 5:30 PM CDT)
  • No. 8 Kentucky vs. Auburn (Fri. 4/12 6:00 PM CDT)
  • No. 6 Vanderbilt vs. No. 3 Texas A&M (Fri. 4/12 6:30 PM CDT)
  • No. 1 Arkansas vs. No. 25 Alabama (Fri. 4/12 6:30 PM CDT)
  • LSU vs. No. 4 Tennessee (Fri. 4/12 6:30 PM CDT)
  • No. 22 Mississippi State vs. Ole Miss (Fri. 4/12 7:00 PM CDT)

Yes, technically speaking, there are a couple series that are already underway. The Kentucky Wildcats have beaten the Auburn Tigers in their first game of the series and the Georgia Bulldogs beat the Missouri Tigers on Thursday as well.

But, well, that's just a couple series.

Let's take a look at the games on Saturday:

  • Missouri vs. Georgia (Sat. 4/13 1:00 PM CDT)
  • No. 8 Kentucky vs. Auburn (Sat. 4/13 2:00 PM CDT)
  • South Carolina vs. No. 24 Florida (Sat. 4/13 3:00 PM CDT)
  • No. 1 Arkansas vs. No. 25 Alabama (Sat. 4/13 5:00 PM CDT)
  • LSU vs. No. 4 Tennessee (Sat. 4/13 5:30 PM CDT)
  • No. 6 Vanderbilt vs. No. 3 Texas A&M (Sat. 4/13 7:30 PM CDT)
  • No. 22 Mississippi State vs. Ole Miss (Sat. 4/13 7:30 PM CDT)

So, there are a couple series that will be wrapping up on Saturday. Georgia - Mizzou will be wrapping up. As will Kentucky and Auburn.

And now, on to Sunday:

  • South Carolina vs. No. 24 Florida (Sun. 4/14 11:00 AM CDT)
  • No. 6 Vanderbilt vs. No. 3 Texas A&M (Sun. 4/14 1:00 PM CDT)
  • No. 1 Arkansas vs. No. 25 Alabama (Sun. 4/14 1:30 PM CDT)
  • No. 22 Mississippi State vs. Ole Miss (Sun. 4/14 1:30 PM CDT)
  • LSU vs. No. 4 Tennessee (Sun. 4/14 2:00 PM CDT)

There are some pretty fascinating matchups this weekend. The Kentucky Wildcats have an opportunity to build upon their lead in the SEC East. Meanwhile, the Arkansas Razorbacks will be given a pretty interesting challenge in the SEC West.

The LSU Tigers and the Tennessee Volunteers have an intriguing matchup. Are the Tigers truly this bad? Can they bounce back against the Vols? And down in College Station, we've got a highly ranked series between the Vanderbilt Commodores and the Texas A&M Aggies. That's one that'll be intriguing to keep up with.
