The 2024-2025 season will be a pivotal one for Mississippi State women's basketball. It will be the third season for head coach Sam Purcell, and he'll need to put together a good year.

This past season was a disappointing one for women's basketball. After an impressive debut campaign under Purcell in 22-23, the Bulldogs got off to a great start to the 23-34 season before totally collapsing down the stretch to miss the NCAA Tournament.

State made a nice run to the WBIT quarterfinals, but it was little consolation considering they had the talent to be Sweet 16 team. As a result, the pressure in on for Sam Purcell in 24-25, and we're starting to get a good idea of the schedule his team will be facing.

Last month, we learned MSU's home and away opponents for SEC play. Wednesday, another big piece to the schedule puzzle was announced, as State learned their opponent for the SEC-ACC Challenge, and it's a team they've got some recent history with.

Mississippi State women's basketball will play at Georgia Tech for SEC-ACC Challenge

MSU women's basketball will go on the road for the SEC-ACC Challenge next season. They'll travel to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech on December 4.

The Bulldogs should have some familiarity with the Yellow Jackets. State defeated Tech handily, 84-47, in Starkville in last season's WBIT opening round matchup.

Georgia Tech has been a solid program in recent years. Head coach Nell Fortner has led them to a pair of tournament appearances with a Sweet 16 run in 2021. And they should take a step forward in 24-25, as nearly every major contributor returns from last season's WBIT team.

Tech should provide a quality non-conference opponent for Mississippi State on the resume, which is the goal of the SEC-ACC Challenge. Last year the Bulldogs lost to Miami at home 74-68 in the Challenge. They'll look to land on the winning end of the Challenge this season.
