Mississippi State Football's Decamerion Richardson Runs Blazing 40 Time at 2024 NFL Combine

The 2024 NFL Combine is underway with four former Mississippi State football players participating. In that group is former Bulldog cornerback Decamerion Richardson. Richardson spent two years as a starter for the Mississippi State defense and was State's top corner in 2023. As a senior he was third on the team in tackles with 79 and led the Bulldogs with seven pass deflections.

Richardson is a big-time athlete with great size for a corner and elite speed. He's the exact type of player that is prime to excel at the NFL Combine, and that's exactly what he did.

Weight: 188 lbs

No event at the NFL Combine receives more coverage than the 40-yard dash. We all love to see how fast players are. And in the 40-yard dash, Decamerion Richardson shined. Richardson ran an official 4.34 40-yard dash. That was the third best amongst cornerbacks, and so far, it's the fourth best time overall at the Combine (running backs and wide receivers are running today). Clemson corner Nate Wiggins currently leads all players with a 4.28 40.

The fact that Richardson can run that time at his size makes it even more impressive. Any cornerback with that combination of size and speed is going to be an intriguing prospect. Richardson was 20th amongst corners with a 35.00" vertical, and he ranked 12th at his position with a 10'8" broad jump.

A great way to visualize a player's athleticism relative to their position is through their Relative Athletic Score, or "RAS", which grades them on a 0-10 scale. As you can imagine, Decamerion Richardson posted a very strong RAS after his performance at the 2024 NFL Combine. Richardson scored a 9.77, which was the 3rd-best RAS of any cornerback at the Combine. He was graded as having good size and explosiveness and, naturally, elite speed.

Decamerion Richardson was very impressive at the 2024 NFL Combine. His strong physical traits are as good as almost any other cornerback in the draft class. Now, he wasn't the most productive player at the college level, and he has to refine his skillset more if he's going to make it in the NFL. But he potentially moved himself into mid-round draft consideration as a project pick in the league after his performance at the Combine.
