Mississippi State football announces 2024 SEC Media Days attendees
The unofficial start of the 2024 college football season begins in one week with SEC Media Days taking place in Dallas. Mississippi State football will get the chance to showcase their new look program under head coach Jeff Lebby to the national media. Today we learned which Bulldogs will be joining Lebby in Dallas.
Quarterback Blake Shapen
It's typical for teams to send their quarterbacks to Media Days, but it's still great to see Blake Shapen as one of Mississippi State's attendees. Shapen didn't speak to media during the spring, and while he did a few interviews at the Manning Passing Academy last month, this will the first opportunity for most members of the media to hear from the former Baylor QB.
Blake Shapen will be the leader of the offense, and whether or not Jeff Lebby's scheme can be as effective in 2024 as it's been in recent years largely falls on Shapen's shoulders. It'll be nice to hear how the transition has gone for him this offseason.
Offensive Lineman Albert Reese IV
Entering his fourth year in the program, Albert Reese IV is now expected to be one of the top OL on the roster. The massive blocker out of Canada has seen plenty of game reps during his career, but with lots of overturn up front, he's now expected to carry a heavier load. Hopefully he can provide us some insight on the new OL is gelling.
Linebacker John Lewis
Another fourth year player who's needed to play a bigger role for Mississippi State this fall, John Lewis is expected to takeover the Bulldogs LB room this season. An immensely talented backer, Lewis could be poised for a breakthrough as a senior now that he's back at his natural position of inside LB. Defense is a major question mark for MSU, so we'll see if Lewis can shine some light on how that unit has progressed and what new DC Coleman Hutzler's defense will look like.
Mississippi State will be in attendance at SEC Media Days on July 17, and the event will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
