Get to know Mississippi State football's 2024 opponents: Georgia Bulldogs
The 2024 Mississippi State football season gets underway in just one month, and we're getting ready by familiarizing ourselves with State's opponents this fall. MSU gets a bye to open the month of October, but then on October 12, they'll head to Athens to face the SEC's other Bulldogs, the Georgia Bulldogs.
We've already done a full preview of Georgia in our SEC Snapshots series, but here's three things to know about UGA in 2024...
Georgia took one of Florida's best players.
The Bulldogs had to replace stud RBs Daijun Edwards and Kendall Milton, so they went out and landed one of their biggest rivals' best players, Florida's Trevor Etienne. Etienne has rushed for nearly 1500 yards and 14 TDs over the last two years in Gainesville, and he was arguably the most explosive player they had on offense. If you can improve your roster while dealing a blow to your rivals, you just have to do it.
No Brock Bowers, no problem for Georgia.
TE Brock Bowers was a superstar in Athens over the last few seasons, and he will be missed. But Georgia won't be hurting without him. Oscar Delp is set to be the next great TE in Athens, and they grabbed Stanford's Benjamin Yurosek from the portal to add another big-time pass-catcher to the room. Plus with the talent they have at WR between Dominic Lovett and Miami-transfer Colbie Young, QB Carson Beck will have no shortage of weapons to throw to.
Georgia has better talent in the trenches than anyone else in the country.
It shouldn't come as a total surprise given the level at which they recruit, but you won't find a team with a better collective group of offensive and defensive lineman than UGA in 2024. Four of five starters are back along an OL that was elite in '23, led by All-American Tate Ratledge. The trio of DE Mykel Williams, NT Nazir Stackhouse, and DT Warren Brinson will be nearly unstoppable up front.
The Dawgs will run over nearly everyone they face on offense, and good luck blocking that DL.
