5. The Pirate's farewell - Mississippi State wins the 2022 Egg Bowl 24-22

The 2022 Egg Bowl was a somewhat ugly, back-and-forth affair played on a rainy night in Oxford. But as so often happens in this game, there was a chaotic ending.

State got off to a quick 7-0 lead, but then sloppy play for much of the first half put them behind 16-7 late in the second quarter. But a drive to TD end the half flipped momentum. They'd takeover in the second half, pulling ahead 24-16. And that's when things got crazy.

Late in the fourth, trying to put the game away, MSU QB Will Rogers would fumble on a QB keeper at the goal line. The Rebels would go right down the field, scoring a touchdown to pull within two. With the game on the line, Bulldog DE Randy Charlton would knock down a shovel pass on the Rebel's 2-point attempt to keep the Bulldogs ahead and effectively secure the victory.

Sadly, this was the final game for Bulldogs' coach Mike Leach. A few weeks later, he would tragically pass away from a heart condition, leaving a gaping hole in the Mississippi State community and college football universe as a whole. Thankfully, the Pirate got to go out a winner.
